A Waterville man has arrested in connection with a July 28th Robbery at Little Caesar’s Restaurant. Police believe the man stole the money to pay for drugs.

Waterville police say that 23-year-old Mitchell McQuarrie allegedly walked into the restaurant and handed the clerk a note demanding money. After he received a small amount of cash, McQuarrie fled on foot.

A canine unit failed to pick up the suspect’s trail after the robbery. But tips from citizens and some physical evidence led police to consider McQuarrie the prime suspect. Investigators say they believe an addiction to opiates caused the man to commit the crime, in order to pay for more drugs.

After some surveillance, police stopped McQuarrie as he was driving on Lower Main Street in Waterville just before noon on Friday. He’s charged with one count of Robbery, a Class B felony. His bail was set at $5,000 unsecured with special conditions and he’s scheduled to appear in court again on September 10th.

If convicted of the robbery charge, McQuarrie faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
