After the opening show of Prince's Chicago residency on Tuesday night was widely panned by critics and fans, he made amends on night two with a performance of his classic song 'Nothing Compares 2 U' featuring Chicago-born superstar Jennifer Hudson.

The collaboration didn't resemble the version of the song that Sinead O'Connor took to No. 1 for four weeks in '90. Instead, the Purple One and JHud jazzed up the tune -- which was originally recorded for Prince's side project the Family -- with piano, guitars, and a church organ solo. Not to mention some of the most soulful vocals you'll ever hear in concert. "Take 'em to church!," Prince shouted.

Hudson gave her fans the scoop on Twitter after the show:

The performance marked the second time in less than a week Prince performed 'Nothing Compares 2 U' with a soul diva. Over the weekend, he teamed up with Mary J. Blige on the track at the iHeart Radio Festival.

Prince began his three-night Chicago stand on Tuesday, though fans reported on Twitter and on message boards that he kept them waiting for 40 minutes for an encore that didn't come until the house lights went on and most of the arena had emptied out. He wrapped up his run in the Windy City tonight on Sept. 26, with Janelle Monae opening the show.
