The deaths of a man and woman whose bodies were found inside a parked car on Christmas morning are being treated as a homicide.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says State Police, aided by the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office, are now investigating the deaths of a young couple from Augusta as a double homicide. Autopsies performed on Saturday confirmed that both Eric Williams and Bonnie Royer died from gunshot wounds.

The couple's bodies were found in a car that was parked a short distance off the Sanford Road, a dirt road near a number of sand and gravel pits. Police were originally called to the location by either Williams or Royer, who called 911. The couple lived together on Easy Street in Augusta, less than a mile from where they died.

Detectives spent Saturday interviewing friends and family of the couple and police continue to seek information from anyone who had contact with them on December 24th and 25th. Police have received several tips from the public and detectives plan to follow up with each call. Anyone with information on the couple is asked to call the State Police in Augusta at 627-7076.
