The huge United Way kickoff, planned for Friday on the Bangor Waterfront, has been pushed back a week due to a rainy forecast.

Each year, the United Way of Eastern Maine holds a huge party to celebrate the start of a new fundraising drive. The 'Community Rally' celebrates businesses and individuals who donate each year to United Way Charities, and also serves to encourage others to donate.

This year's kickoff has been moved from its traditional location to the Bangor Waterfront, where attendees will be treated to lunch. Some parking will be provided but folks are encouraged to park anywhere along the waterfront area where they can find a spot. And there will be some reserved spots for folks who need some extra assistance. Some seating will be available, but there will also be some blankets available to folks who want to sit picnic-style!

This year's kickoff has been postponed to Friday, September 30th from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bangor Waterfront Amphitheatre (the hill to the right of the Darling's Waterfront Pavilion). The date change is due to a forecast of rain for this Friday. UWEM officials say, although the rain is expected to end by noon, the grass won't be dry enough to allow for people to sit comfortably.

If you're interested in going, you can RSVP at sarahb@unitedwayem.org. For more information, log onto the website for the United Way of Eastern Maine.
