Two people were killed in an accident Friday afternoon that involved a tractor trailer and five other vehicles.

Central Maine News reports the accident happened at the intersection of Route 17 and Fitch Road in Washington and involved a total of six vehicles. The sequence of the crash is still being determined but police say a tractor trailer carrying lumber rolled into the ditch and spilled its load. Another vehicle showing signs of having burned was in a field and a third was down in a gully.

Several ambulances and a LifeFlight helicopter were dispatched to the scene. There's no word yet about injuries other than the fact that two people died in the crash.

Knox and Waldo County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene, as well as State Police. In addition, fire departments and ambulances from several communities responded to the crash.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
