Two juveniles have been charged with arson for a house fire in Palmyra.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says the two 12-year-olds were alone in the house on Higgins Road when fire broke out just after 10:00 Thursday morning. Investigators say it appears the fire started in the kitchen and, according to Centralmaine.com, determined it was not accidental and had a human element.  The home was destroyed in the blaze.

One of the children lived at the residence, and fire investigators say they think the other child is from Pittsfield. They were able to get out of the  house safely and were not injured in the fire. Both are charged with Class A Felony arson and will be tried in juvenile court.

Officials say the homeowners weren't at the residence when fire broke out. They told investigators that they do have insurance.
