Two people were shot in an officer involved shooting in Vassalboro after police encountered a pickup along the Arnold Road Friday afternoon.

The man driving the truck was killed and the woman with him was transported to Maine Medical Center in critical condition with a gunshot wound, according to a news release from Maine State Police.

Police say the shooting occurred after the truck intentionally rammed a State Police cruisier. Police had been called to the area looking for a vehicle involved with daytime burglaries, one of them where a homeowner was present.

The three officers involved were State Police Lt Scott Ireland; Trooper Jeff Parks and Vassalboro Police Chief Mark Brown. As is standard procedure, the officers were placed on administrative leave with pay. Also standard procedure, The Maine Attorney General's Office will investigate the shooting.

Police have not released the names of the suspects.
