Route 1 in Searsport was shut down at least twice Wednesday due to difficulty with the transportation of a large windmill component.

State police Wednesday morning said in a Facebook post that the equipment was "stuck in the road" and Route 1 was closed at Trundy Road.

Drivers were warned to avoid the area.

Police later updated the post, saying the road was back open to two-way traffic.

Three hours after the original post, police said the road was closed again at Trundy Road due to "complications in moving the equipment."

Police again asked drivers to avoid the area and said traffic was "being rerouted around the blockage via Navy Street in Searsport and Rt. 1A in Stockton Springs."
