It's only been one day since comedian Trevor Noah was named the new host of The Daily Show, but fans are already calling him out for his controversial material.

Because this is the internet and nothing ever actually disappears, fans went years back in the South African comedian's Twitter timeline and dug up some seriously controversial jokes that go as far back as 2009.

Many felt that Noah's humor — granted, this was from several years ago — was sexist, anti-Semitic and just plain immature.

Even comedians such as Roseanne Barr weighed in on the situation, calling out the comedian and questioning the network's decision:

Comedy Central and Trevor Noah have yet to address backlash.

While there is no doubt that Trevor Noah's past tweets are definitely controversial, it is important to point out that they are from as far back as six years ago. While he (or his team) probably should've gone through his Twitter backlog and deleted anything eyebrow-raising before the announcement, we're hoping that that type of humor is in the past and he's since cleaned up his act, so to speak.

Yesterday, Monday (March 30), we reported that Trevor Noah will be replacing Jon Stewart as the host of The Daily Show. Jon Stewart — who has hosted the late-night political satire show for over 15 years — announced that he will retire after this season of the show.

What do you think of Trevor Noah's past jokes? Should he still replace Jon Stewart?
