Multiple events in the Bangor area over the weekend could make driving on Main Street challenging, so motorists are advised to avoid the area if they can.

The chain of events will start with the closure of exits 1 and 2 on I-395, beginning at 8:00 Friday night, while the Webster Avenue bridge is replaced. It's expected to open again to traffic at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning. Vehicles will be detoured, but many will opt to drive through town, rather than dealing with diverted routes.

Erin's Run, a race to end domestic violence, will shut down one inbound lane of Main Street, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, This event will stretch from the intersections of May and Dutton Streets.

Also on Saturday, the 'Why Jesus' Christian Faith conference will get underway at 8 a.m. at the Cross Insurance Center. The sold-out event could snarl traffic in the same part of Main Street as Erin's Run.

Sunday could also see some congestion in that area, as Husson University celebrates its commencement ceremony at the Cross Insurance Center. The graduation gets underway at 2 p.m.

Motorists who will be in Bangor over the weekend are advised to start planning your route now. And if you need to go through that part of town during these events, you might want to plan on allowing for some extra time due to traffic delays.
