If you remember back in September when the Cross Insurance Center opened we had a talent showcase to mark the event.  The winner, chosen by the attendees of the show, was Lily Muscatell a high school student from here in Bangor, Maine.

Well, on Sunday I got to enjoy Lily’s singing again but this time I was in church.  Turns out that Lily and I both attend the Rock Church in Bangor and she had written a new song to honor a friend, Sarah Robinson, who had lost her battle with cancer at the age of 24. Turns out before dying Sarah started a cancer hospitality house here in Maine that was to be her legacy, inspiring Lily to write the song in hopes of raising money to support her friend's dream Sarah's House in Old Town. The single is ‘Legacy’ and it is available for $3.00 CD single at Bull Moose music in Bangor, Old Town/Orono YMCA, Old Town Recreation Department and at Leonard Middle School. It is also available as a digital download on iTunes.

The song encourages us all that in whatever time you have been given you can affect those around you in a way that will linger long after you have gone.

She is a truly talented young lady and I was impressed to read that this is the third time Lily has risen to a cause with a song and made a significant contribution. In 8th grade while at Leonard Middle School, Lily wrote and recorded “Untouchable” to benefit the Elton John Aids Foundation. I have read the song raised approximately $800, in 9th grade, her song ‘Stars That Shine’ raised something to the tune of $1,600 for Make-A-Wish. Last year, she recorded ‘Home is a Feeling,’ which raised I understand $3,100 for The Shaw House in Bangor. Proceeds from the CD single and iTunes sales of “Legacy” will benefit a place that was a dream of its namesake, Sarah Robinson, who was diagnosed with cancer at age 24.

This year Lily is a junior at John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor. Her friend Sarah Robinson passed away in 2011. Click here to read more about Sarah’s House in Old Town
