The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards are just a few weeks away, which means the network has been doling out information about the upcoming awards show in dribs and drabs, in order to properly build up max anticipation. Today (Aug. 4) the network revealed The Weeknd will make an appearance at the upcoming awards show.

The R&B singer will reportedly perform his current single "Can't Feel My Face," marking the first time The Weeknd will play the track on live television. And although MTV confirmed the announcement with a single tweet, the information initially came from a pretty unlikely promo source: Tom Cruise.

The actor tweeted the news just a few minutes before MTV, offering fans more specifics than the network did. He wrote, "I had a blast on @JimmyFallon doing #CantFeelMyFace. Wait till you see the real @TheWeeknd perform it at the @MTV #VMAs on Aug 30."

In case you missed it, Tom is referring to his recent appearance on The Tonight Show where he performed "Can't Feel My Face" during a truly epic Lip Sync Battle against Jimmy Fallon.

So far, it looks like the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards are shaping up to be interesting, to say the least. Miley Cyrus recently announced that she had full hosting duties for the evening, and the Parents Television Council wrote a strongly worded letter opposing it, somehow forgetting that the VMAs aren't exactly the most family-friendly programming on TV to begin with.

Be sure to tune in to the 2015 VMAs when they air on Aug. 30 at 9PM EST on MTV.
