Listen to The Knocks’ Club-Worthy Remix of ‘Welcome to New York’

Following in Ryan Adams' well-meaning footsteps, producers The Knocks have attempted to better Taylor Swift's questionable 1989 intro track, "Welcome to New York," with a brand new remix.

The Knocks' version successfully transforms the song from an overwrought, over-synthesized guess at what the '80s might've sounded like to a modern-day club banger. Keeping things relatively simple, Swift's vocals are made slightly more tinny, with an increased frequency in pitch, and layered repetitively over a heavy beat.

This isn't the first time the NYC-based production duo have been involved with something Taylor Swift-related, though their previous effort was markedly different. They collaborated with Matthew Koma on the track "I Wish (My Taylor Swift)," a song that comes off as an ode to Swift's persona, with lyrics as straightforward as its title. On it, Koma sings at length about his search to find a Swift-like lady: "I wish I could find my Taylor Swift / Be bad as hell, take no one’s sh—t / She’d be the boss and so legit."

The Knocks aren't strangers to tweaking pop hits, either: The pair also remixed another huge track, Jack Ü's and Justin Bieber's EDM collaboration "Where Are Ü Now?" back in May 2015.
