Canoe and kayak enthusiasts will be paddling the Kenduskeag Stream tomorrow in the 48th Annual Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race.

Most people realize that April can be a winter month in Maine, and as a result, the race has been held in beautiful, spring-like temperatures and it can also be snowing and cold.

That's just for the race spectators, but this year, the race participants need to be prepared to guard against hypothermia.

Bangor Fire Lt. Jim Metcalf says there's still ice on those waters and hypothermia will set in within a matter of minutes.

While Bangor Fire will be staged at the race, the members of Dirigo Search and Rescue and Lincoln Search and Rescue will be the ones in the water tomorrow snatching anyone who happens to take a swim.
