The State Fire Marshal’s Office has charged two teenagers from Dover-Foxcroft with arson after a building near the town’s water tower was set ablaze, officials said.

The fire occurred Saturday afternoon at the water district’s property on Reservoir Road.

Fire investigators on Monday arrested two 16-year-old boys and charged them with arson and burglary, according Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

Both suspects have been released to the custody of their parents or guardians.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage to the cement block building, which contained control and alarm panels, pumps and tools owned by the water district, McCausland said.

The names of the teens are being withheld because they're under 18.

Court dates have not been set for the suspects.
