Augusta Police have arrested a man in connection with a robbery at a convenience store that happened over the weekend.

Major Jared Mills says officers responded to the Augusta Quick Mart on Western Avenue for a report of a robbery just after six o'clock Saturday evening. Police say a white man in a dark hooded sweatshirt entered the store and demanded money from the clerk.

The man threatened to use a gun but never displayed a weapon. The clerk refused to give the man any money and so he fled. Augusta Police Officers and a State Police K-9 searched the area but were unable to locate the person responsible for this attempted robbery.

Police identified the suspect on March 10th as 27-year-old Corey Ross Swift, who's listed as a transient. He was immediately located by authorities and charged with Robbery. He's currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail with a bail of $10,000.

Swift has only been out of prison since August, after serving a ten-year sentence for Felony Murder. Central Maine News reports Swift pleaded guilty to the charge for the April, 2007 death of Franco-American singer Jean-Paul Poulain. The 62-year-old victim lived long enough in the ambulance to tell authorities who was involved in the robbery that led to his being shot. Swift was one of three men who robbed Poulain, but another man, Matthew Loisel, was named as the trigger man. He's currently serving a 30-year sentence.

Augusta Police are extending thanks to the public for offering vital information they needed to bring Swift into custody.
