Brewer High School's Principal Wall isn't working at the school right now, and the Superintendent of Schools is refusing to explain the reason for his absence.

Principal David Wall hasn't been on the job since late last week, but school committee members are refusing to comment on the reasons why. There's no indication about whether he's been fired, suspended,  or is taking time off due to sickness or personal reasons.

Brewer Superintendent of Schools Cheri Towle told us today that Maine statue prevents her from commenting on Wall's situation. All she is permitted to say is that he is on leave:

"Principal Wall is currently out on leave from his position as the High School Principal of Brewer High School.  I understand that people may have questions about this, but please understand that neither I, nor anyone else authorized to speak for the School Department, can provide information about personnel issues – regardless of who the employee might be.  I can assure everyone, however, that the School Department plans for the absence of any employee and that we work hard to ensure that the students and their programs are not impacted by an absence.  We will continue to do all we can to ensure that the Brewer School Department is providing its students with an excellent education."

According to the BDN, Bangor Police say Wall is not being investigated, so this is an employment issue, not a criminal complaint. Public Safety Director Jason Moffitt is urging Towle to say something, to quell rumors swirling around the school and among parents.
