Not much is known of the second season of Stranger Things, but – then again – Season 1 didn’t offer terribly many answers. At least one thing’s for sure: if you thought the Demogorgon was scary, producer Shawn Levy says the giant threat of Stranger Things 2 will make the gangly monster seem “quaint” by comparison.

Producer and sometime director Levy stated as much in an interview with Gold Derby (h/t BloodyDisgusting), responding to star Finn Wolfhard’s prior suggestion that Season 2 would have more of a horror bent. And while Levy wouldn’t explain anything about that giant spider-monster visible in the trailer, it definitely sounds like the Demogorgon has been one-upped:

I’m so forbidden to say so very much. Will Byers is very much at the center of several intersecting challenges and threats in Season 2. And I think overall the kind of forces of evil that are inherent in Season 2 make that Demogorgon look quaint in retrospect.

Elsewhere of Stranger Things Season 2, we know the next chapter will move from its summer perch to a Halloween 2017 premiere. The story will pick up in the fall of 1984, while creators Matt and Ross Duffer have teased a James Cameron sequel influence in crafting the second chapter.

We’ll also learn more about the Demogorgon and Upside Down, as teased in our exclusive concept art piece, while Sadie Sink and Power Rangers star Dacre Montgomery have been added to the cast in regular roles, along with Brett Gelman, Goonies alum Sean Astin, Aliens baddie Paul Reiser and actress Linnea Berthelsen. The full list of directors has also been revealed, including Finding Dory helmer Andrew Stanton.

We’ll learn more of Stranger Things Season 2 in the coming months, so stay tuned for additional details, and check out the teaser again below.
