More TV time for the King of horror?

Deadline reports that Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital are laying down the big bucks to bring the eight book series to both the small and big screens. So far, no director or leading actor has been named. Sony hopes to bring screenwriters Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner into the project. The two wrote the 2010 version of The Dark Tower script.

King told Deadline: 'I'm excited that The Dark Tower is finally going to appear on the screen. Those who have traveled with Roland and his friends in their search for the Dark Tower are going to have their long-held hopes fully realized. This is a brilliant and creative approach to my books.'

The film will be based on the first book series The Gunslinger.

Previously, Warner Bros. and HBO attempted to create a film franchise and TV series from the book. Both studios eventually forfeited.
