State Police Issue Travel Warning

The state police are advising that motorists delay travel until later in the day, once the temperatures warm up. Accidents are being reported around the state and vehicles are stranded on the sides of ice-covered roads.

Public safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release today that troopers inland say roads have made travel treacherous. Many plow trucks have been having difficulty getting salt and sand on the roads until the temperatures warm up during the day.  He goes on to say that motorists need to be extra cautious or delay travel until later in the day.

Just before 4 o'clock this morning, police responded to the accident pictured above on I-95 in Falmouth. The crash involved four tractor trailers and a car. It started with a car accident and a tractor trailer jackknife. Then three more tractor trailers got involved, three of which rolled over. All the people involved were sent to Maine Medical Center for treatment.
