I have to admit, I'm kind of a Trekkie. I mean, I don't dress up in costume or pretend that I'm Lieutenant Uhura. But I grew up watching the original Star Trek. And so I'm excited about the newest movie, with a newer, younger cast! Zachary Quinto is a very convincing-looking Spock. Wow!

Now, I have to admit. I started out as kind of a purist. I mean, my favorite episode of Star Trek is still "The Trouble with Tribbles," despite the many generations of the show since the original.I didn't think I'd like Patrick Stewart in the lead role, when "The Next Generation" started. But he won me over the very first time I watched the show!

One of my favorite Star Trek memories dates back to the original movie. My then-husband and I were reciting the opening right along with the narrator. "These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise...." when this young kid in front of us turned around and said "Wow, have you guys seen this movie already?" Uh, no, kid...we watched the series. "It was a TV show?!!"

The new movie leaves that old series with the terrible special effects in the dust. It's in 3-D (isn't everything these days?) and looks awesome! I can't wait to feed my inner Trekkie with another dose of Kirk, Spock, Uhura, and friends! Check out the trailer for "Star Trek Into Darkness."
