The St. Francis man who disappeared just before his girlfriend was discovered shot to death has been found alive, bringing to a close a nearly week-long manhunt.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release today that Jesse Marquis was captured alive this morning in woods in St. Francis. He was the subject of a huge search for the past week in connection with the death of his long-term girlfriend, Amy Theriault, last Saturday.

The medical examiner determined that Theriault had been stabbed several times and shot to death. Just before her body was discovered, Marquis was seen walking into some nearby woods with a rifle.

Marquis was located at around eight o'clock this morning, sitting at the base of a tree, about three miles into the woods, near the St. Francis dump, with his rifle next to him. He was arrested at gunpoint without incident.

Police were led to Marquis by a bloodhound from the Strafford County New Hampshire's Sheriff's office. 'Daisy Mae,' accompanied by Deputy Keith MacKenzie, picked up the scent about 90 minutes before police located Marquis.

He was taken to the Fort Kent police department for processing and will then be taken to the Aroostook County Jail. McCausland says he will probably make his first court appearance on Monday.
