Check out some of the photos I've snapped while getting my hike on!

This Spring I was a little late getting on the trails. The snow stuck around for quite a while as you'll see in some of my photos. So far I've hiked my tail off on trails and smaller sized mountains to get back my stamina back up. This summer my big goal is to drag my butt up Mt. Katahdin, something I've never done!

If you looking to get out into nature this spring here's a few tips:

  • It's mud season, so watch your footing! Trails are slippery!
  • Wear appropriate clothing. It may be warm when you start your hike, but temps drop fast!
  • Not all the snow and ice is gone! You'll still find patches of snow or ice so be cautious.
  • With slipping and falling a good possibility, have a first aid kit.
  • Don't forget food. Hiking makes you hungry so have something in you pack.
  • Have a compass, fire starter and knife! You don't think you need them until you do! They never leave my hiking pack, no matter how long (or short) the hike is.
  • If a map of your hike is available, print it out! Have a map of the area with you too. In spring, snow and blown down trees and limbs can obscure your view of the trial.

My first hike was up Bald Mountain. The first time up there was lots of snow. One week later, it was gone!

A new hike I found is down in beautiful Hancock. The Old Pond trail follows the old Shoreline Railway. The whole trail is three miles long making for a decently timed hike. I got a little snap happy with my camera, as you see.

I was bummed to find lots of snow (2 weeks ago) on Blackcap Mountain. So rather than falling on my butt every two steps, I hiked around the pond. Pretty lil area!

Monday I took a trip up Little Chick Hill in Cliffton. Love that hike! Unfortunately it was getting dark when I summited, so here's a picture from the top I took last fall.
