A man suffered multiple injuries when his snowmobile collided with a tractor-trailer truck on Route 11 in Masardis Monday, police said.

Timothy Brown, 49, of Presque Isle, was operating a tractor-trailer truck when a snowmobile crossed the road in front of him at a high rate of speed.

As Brown approached the snowmobile trail, a second machine traveled onto the roadway and struck the side of the truck, according to Maine State Police.

The front end of the snowmobile was torn apart from the rest of the machine.

The operator of the second snowmobile has been identified as Jeremy Allen, 35, of Huntingtown, Maryland, who suffered multiple minor injuries, including a possible compound fracture in his right leg, police said.

Allen said he didn't have time to stop at the stop sign on the trial. Police say Allen's rate of speed was likely a factor in the accident.

Allen told police that Monday was just the third day he has ever spent snowmobiling.

Brown was not hurt in the accident.
