Dana Barrett chimes in on what it's like to return to the iconic role of Ellen Ripley and why she decided to join Creative Assembly's take on the Alien franchise after passing on so many other offers in the past.

In an interview with The Mary Sue, Sigourney Weaver spoke on why, out of so many 'Alien'-centered games that have been released in the past, she finally decided to offer her talents to Alien: Isolation (via Polygon). The veteran actress offered to help with Alien: Isolation because it's "the first time it makes sense" to her.

"I get approached to do other kinds of games, sometimes to do with Alien, and this is the first one that seemed to me to be very ambitious in a new direction, using the details of Jim Cameron's script," Weaver said. "You know, the fact that Ripley never was able to be reunited with her daughter."

Alien: Isolation is the story of Amanda Ripley's journey into the unknown to try and find out what happened to her mother after the events of the first movie. Sigourney Weaver reprised her role for various parts of the game, such as its voice recordings of Ellen Ripley that Amanda finds throughout the game.

"... Frankly, these movies are hard acts to follow. That's the biggest challenge of anything that's good enough to spawn a sequel is that it's setting a high bar," she added. "To me, it's interesting story-wise and character-wise."

Alien: Isolation is current out for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. You can actually play as Ellen Ripley in Isolation's Nostromo DLC.

Getting blown out of a spaceship's airlock is pretty gruesome.
