I found this on Reddit today and I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as to the idea of it. Here was the post:

Skowhegan Area High School has come under fire for its team name "The Indians" many times in the past, receiving criticism from the Greater Bangor NAACP and tribes in Maine. The Greater Bangor area NAACP has called the mascot "offensive" and a "symbol of racism." They should retain the name but change the mascot to a depiction of Mahatma Gandhi, Shiva (the Destroyer), or Ganesha.

Hmmm, I thought O.K. but who are these guys any way. So before we go off half-cocked let's take a look.

Ganhdi I think the all know him and no one wouldn't say hey, there was one heck of a guy but I cannot see how we can sexy him up enough to be a tough guy mascot. Fair enough?

    Who is Shiva?

Well you have to say that in this video he looks like he straight out of a Twilight movie so I guess in the High School realm of things that might work  for him. According to religious facts:
In Hinduism, Shiva (or Siva) is one of the chief deities. His name means "Auspicious One." Devotees of Shiva are called "Saivites." Shiva is a paradoxical deity: "both the destroyer and the restorer, the great ascetic and the symbol of sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of souls and the wrathful avenger." In the most famous myth concerning Shiva, he saves humanity by holding in his throat the poison that churned up in the waters and threatened mankind. For this reason he is often depicted with a blue neck.

    Who is Ganesha?

Well, I think I am liking the elephant vibe and he is a victorious figure although how he rides a mouse I'd pay to see. Hindu children seem to love him. I mean hey the guy has his own cartoon. In some depictions he is a little more Buddha shaped but apparently since then he's been working out.

    As told by About.com

Ganesha — the elephant-deity riding a mouse — has become one of the commonest mnemonics for anything associated with Hinduism. This not only suggests the importance of Ganesha, but also shows how popular and pervasive this deity is in the minds of the masses. The Lord of Success he is the son of Shiva and Parvati, Ganesha has an elephantine countenance with a curved trunk and big ears, and a huge pot-bellied body of a human being. He is the Lord of success and destroyer of evils and obstacles. He is also worshipped as the god of education, knowledge, wisdom and wealth.
