Selena Gomez Went to Rehab in January

Selena Gomez Rehab
Pacific Coast News

Whoa! Selena Gomez‘s rep has confirmed that the singer and actress quietly spent two weeks in a rehab facility earlier this year. While the reason she sought treatment has not been revealed, the rep did confirm it was not for substance abuse.

A blind item surfaced at top of the year, suggesting that Sel had cocaine and alcohol problems. However, her rep said, “Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse.”

The Meadows the rep refers to is Dawn at the Meadows, located in Arizona. Gomez admitted herself on Jan. 5, around the same time Kesha sought help for an eating disorder in Chicago and the same time the blind item popped up.

The facility is known for its inpatient treatment program designed for “emerging adults who struggle with emotional trauma, addiction or dual diagnosis concerns.” The program focuses on those aged 18 to 26.

Again, Sel’s team did not go into detail about what issues she was working on. However, the suggestion that she was partying way too hard keeps coming up.

Rumors persist that she struggled with partying. Sources say Gomez, who canceled her Australian tour, was exhausted and that she needed to get away. “It just got to a point where she needed to get out of Los Angeles, get away from ‘the scene’ and the pressures of Hollywood,” an insider said. “To also get away from those who had, admittedly, become a bad influence on her.”

The source said that Gomez’s squeaky clean public persona is markedly different from her private life, suggesting that she had been experimenting with pot and prescription drugs, namely Xanax, which treats anxiety, and Ambien, which is a sleep aid.

An insider says her parents were concerned that “the partying was, at times, wild. They wanted to help her — and they very much encouraged her to go to rehab. Others very close to her also urged her to seek professional help.”

It was also Sel’s choice to seek help. She realized there was a problem and addressed it. “It’s important to remember that Selena had worked in Hollywood non-stop for six years,” another source said. “She was exhausted. Selena was smart enough to understand that she needed to take control of her life.

Sel is said to be happier and healthier now. So don’t stress, Selenators.

It’s also worth noting that she was spotted Segwaying with her ex Justin Bieber on Jan. 2, right before she entered treatment. And it would seem that she did not accompany The Biebs on any glamping trips to Nor Cal in early January, since she would have been away at that time.

Maybe the pressures of Hollywood, continued heartache over The Biebs and general exhaustion required a stint in rehab to get her back in track. We don’t know. We just hope she is better.
