Police say the latest of two fatal accidents on Route 3 in Liberty claimed the lives of a woman and a 9-year-old boy.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says 64-year-old Janice Minson of Verona Island died when her car crossed the centerline on Route 3 and struck an oncoming pickup truck, driven by 20-year-old Evan West of Liberty. 9-year-old Colby Adams of Hope, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, was killed instantly in the accident that happened at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A second passenger in the truck, 15-year-old Samuel Levesque, was seriously injured and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment. West was treated and released from a Belfast hospital.

This is the second fatal crash on that stretch of road, near the entrance to Lake George Park, in two days. On Tuesday, an Oakland man was killed when his pickup collided with a rented box truck, just a quarter mile from Wednesday's accident.
