Sarah Hyland has been granted a three-year restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, actor Matthew Prokop, after she claimed she was verbally and physically abused by him.

TMZ reports that on Monday, Oct. 6, a judge extended the restraining order that was issued on Sept. 23. The order prohibits Prokop from getting within 100 yards of Hyland, her dog and her home. He is not allowed to own a gun or ammunition and is also not allowed near anyplace she may be working.

According to documents filed in court, Hyland alleges that Prokop choked her by the throat and repeatedly made threats to burn down her house or injure her dog. She also went as far as enlisting the help of her 'Modern Family' co-star Julie Bowen for help when she tried to end the relationship with him.

Prokop reportedly entered rehab, but Hyland was advised to get a restraining order after the facility's director became concerned about his behavior.

The two met while filming 'Modern Family' and started dating in 2009.
