Why the beef? Answer: Beef.

Joan Jett is scheduled to be on a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade float representing South Dakota. However, South Dakotans aren't too happy with Joan representing the state. Why? She's the opposite of what the state represents.

Joan is a huge PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) supporter and a vegetarian. In South Dakota, most of the economy is biased on the cattle industry. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association says what Joan represents doesn't mesh at all with what the state stands for.

State officials have been taking blame for the choice, however they weren't responsible. They say Macy's choose Joan because none of the artists the state choose weren't available.

A spokeswoman for Joan said that Joan Jett & the Blackhearts have played in South Dakota countless times and is a fan of the state. Joan herself accepted the offer of appearing on the float.
