The Maine Department of Transportation has informed the City of Ellsworth that it plans to install center-line rumble strips on a section of busy Rte. 1A.

The strips will be installed between the Green Lake Road to the Mariaville Road, the Route 180 intersection in Ellsworth.

The work will take place this July and August, between 9AM and 3PM, and then again after 6PM.  According to the information provided it should be a quick process.

Rumble strips are credited with saving lives, alerting sleepy drivers that they are crossing the center-line.  When tires touch the strips a heavy vibration can be felt and heard.

Currently, rumble strips can be found on the other side of the Green Lake Road traveling into Dedham.

The Maine Department of Transportation will also re-do the intersection of Route 179 and Route 1A in Ellsworth, by Sunrise glass, and the road work will continue up outer State Street to the Mill Mall area.  Work is due to begin later this year.
