Details are few, at this hour, but Route 2 in Carmel has been closed for some time due to what's being termed a 'police situation.'

WLBZ-TV reports police blocked Route 2 from right off Route 69, down Main Street to Damascus Road. All that's known, at this hour, is that police are investigating some sort of situation near the municipal building that started earlier in the morning.

Officials are asking people living in 9 homes along the closed-off portion of Route 9 to stay in their homes. However, parishioners are being allowed to attend services at the Carmel Church of Restoration on the Damascus Road. Police say they expect the road to be closed for as much as another two hours.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
