A Rockland man was arrested and charged with arson and attempted murder for setting fire to his neighbor’s mobile home Tuesday morning, police said.

Timothy Barbeau, 42, faces two counts of arson and one count of aggravated attempted murder, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety said Tuesday afternoon.

The spokesman said Barbeau used gasoline to start the fire at about 7 a.m. at 23 Third Street, in the Sunset Terrace mobile home park.

Barber was tackled at the scene by a neighbor, who held him until Rockland police arrived and placed Barbeau in handcuffs.

Three people were asleep inside the home at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported.

Barbeau is being held at the Knox County Jail.
