The American Red Cross is gearing up for its annual Real Heroes breakfast, but they need more nominations for Real Heroes. They want to know if you know someone who has been a real hero this year. But you need to get your nomination in soon!

Each year, the American Red Cross honors a select few people who have made a difference in the lives of their neighbors. These people can work in public safety - like police, fire, or ambulance personnel. Or they can be teachers, coaches, housewives...whatever! If they demonstrated acts of heroism, courage, kindness, and unselfish character in service to others, they qualify!

The nomination deadline was the end of last month, but Red Cross officials have decided to extend that to allow for more nominations to be submitted. You can suggest someone you know who is a real hero by clicking on the American Red Cross website.

On March 19th, local business people will gather at Jeff's Catering and Event Center in Brewer for the awards presentation. Over eggs and coffee, the early morning awards show features stories of each honorees' amazing acts of heroism. Everyone attending is encouraged to bring their appetite and a few tissues!
