Bangor Hydro Electric Crews and crews as far as away from New Jersey are working to restore power to the slightly more than 12,700 customers without power in the Bangor Hydro Electric Service territory.

While they are working hard, the frigid temperatures are not allowing any melting of the ice on the lines. Customers without power should be sure to take advantage of the warming shelters that are open throughout the region, as temperatures are expected to be 10 degrees or colder tonight

Customers should be sure to report their outage if they haven't already to be sure our crews are aware of it. The Customer Service Center is staffed to handle customer calls and they may be reported online as well. Customers should be sure private roadways are well sanded to allow our crews to safely access areas without power

A full list of shelters that are open may be found HERE. As of 6 PM there were 26 shelters open throughout the state.

Additional crews from several utilities out of state have arrived in Maine and have been deployed to Washington and Hancock County. Damaged tree limbs have been the biggest contributor to power outages.Customers should be sure to report their outage if they haven't already to be sure our crews are aware of it. The Customer Service Center is staffed to handle customer calls and they may be reported online as well.

Customers should be sure private roadways are well sanded to allow our crews to safely access areas without power. Please do not attempt to move power lines that are blocking roadways, but allow our crews to handle them. Customers are also asked to avoid approaching crews for updates, they should call the Customer Service Center for estimated times of restoration,

Finally, please take advantage of community shelters and warming centers if you are still without power and be sure to use generators and alternate sources in the safest possible manner.
