Portland’s Crime-filled Tuesday

Portland Police were very busy on Tuesday, with several major crimes being committed in the city. Between shootings, bank robberies, and drugs, it was a long day for law enforcement.

The day started with the investigation of a double shooting in the Old Port at around midnight. Police say two people were shot at Da Block Records, an independent record label on Fore Street just before midnight, Monday. Witnesses say at least one suspect was seen fleeing up Market Street after the attack. 19-year-old Treyjohn Arsenault of Scarborough died at Maine Medical Center later that morning while the other victim is expected to recover. Police have not released a motive or descriptions of suspects but say they believe the victims knew their attacker(s).

At 10:00 a.m., drug agents searched a home at 592 Washington Street, as part of an investigation into the distribution of crack cocaine. Arrested for Aggravated Trafficking in the drug is 29-year-old Kerwin Lamour of Portland. Before the warrant was issued, undercover agents were able to purchase crack cocaine from Lamour at the residence, which is within 1000 yards of the Presumpscot School. Seized in the raid were crack cocaine, marijuana, packaging materials, two handguns, and ammunition. The investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected. Police say the renters of the first floor apartment were not involved in the operation.

Then at around noon, the TruChoice Federal Credit Union at 272 Park Avenue was robbed. Police say a lone suspect displayed a black handgun, demanded money, and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police say the suspect was last seen running up Forrest Street toward Congress Street while carrying a small dark bag. No one was injured in the robbery.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5' 10" tall, with a thin build. He was wearing oversized glasses, a fake mustache, and a dark afro-style wig. The man was wearing a white hat, dark suit, light-colored shirt with a striped tie, and black shoes. The investigation is ongoing.
