Augusta Police arrested a Portland man as he was carrying $6,000 of heroin in his car. 

Detective Sergeant Jason Cote said in a media release that Police got a tip that a suspicious vehicle was traveling to Augusta, possibly transporting a large amount of drugs. The vehicle was stopped on Winter Street at around 2:00 Thursday morning and the driver, 52-year-old Preston Cooper, was arrested for Operating While License Suspended or Revoked.

A search of Cooper's vehicle turned up 30 grams of Heroin with an estimated street value of $6,000. At this point, he was additionally charged with Aggravated Trafficking of Heroin, Unlawful Possession of Heroin, and Sale and Use of Drug Paraphernalia. His bail was set at $60,000 cash and, when he was unable to post bail, he was transferred to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility in Augusta.
