The 78-year-old Brewer man who walked away from an assisted living facility last month has been found in the Midwestern United States, according to police.

In a Wednesday news release, the Brewer Police Department said Gordon Brewster is "doing well and is in a safe location."

Brewster waked away from an assisted living facility on June 30, at approximately 8:50 a.m. in Brewer. Brewer Police and the Maine Warden Service searched the area but did not locate him. The investigation subsequently led searchers to believe Brewster had left the area.

Detectives later determined that Brewster had traveled out of state via public transportation and focused their search on the Midwestern US.

He was located earlier this morning and interviewed by law enforcement officials. They concluded that Brewster left Maine alone and wants to be at his current location.

Due to medical privacy laws and out of respect for Brewster’s personal privacy, police are not releasing any further details about his current location at this time.
