Police are investigating the discovery of three bodies in two houses on the 4th of July. While the circumstances of their deaths have not been released, police say they do not believe anyone outside the two houses is involved.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release that the bodies were discovered after Boothbay Harbor Police had been called to conduct a well-being check on one of the properties.

The bodies of two people in their 70's were found inside a home on Lakeside Drive and later a third body of a man in his 40's was found inside a home on Montgomery Road. The victims, two men and one woman, are believed to be members of the same family.

Detectives from the State and Boothbay Harbor Police are investigating the circumstances of the deaths. The victims' bodies are being taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies to determine cause of death. Police expect to release the names of the victims on Sunday.
