Memorial Day weekend traditionally brings the first wave of summer traffic to the state. Maine and New Hampshire Police are preparing for the busy weekend as well.

Monday kicked off a campaign to enforce Maine's mandatory seat belt law. Police will patrol the borders between Maine and New Hampshire, checking to make sure motorists are buckled up.

There were 136 people in killed in Maine motor vehicle crashes. Twenty-nine percent of them were not wearing a seat belt. Cracking down on violations will aim to prevent deaths this year.
