Soon we'll have a statue of a total Babe in Bangor.

The Bangor City Council voted 7-1 in favor of conceptual design plans for a statue of Paul Bunyan's buddy, Babe the Blue Ox. Next is the detailed design phase. The City Council’s Business and Economic Development Committee must sign off on the final design plans before they can be brought before City Council again.

J. Normand Martin is the artist who's bringing the idea to life. The game plan is for Babe to stand alongside the Paul Bunyan statue off Main Street in Bangor. The statue will be 17-feet-tall and cost $200,000.

Don't get too hot and bothered over the price tag. Your tax dollars aren't paying for it. The money will come from private donations.

Construction hopefully will start next summer.
