Passing Motorists Help Subdue Bangor Drug Suspect

A Bangor police officer was helped by some passersby while struggling with a drug suspect during a traffic stop.

The incident happened when Bangor Police Officer David Farrar pulled over a vehicle on High Street just after 11 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle was driven by 39-year-old Heidi McComb of Bangor, and she had a passenger who was identified as 32-year-old Robert Arrington of Brooklyn, New York.

During the stop, the officer noticed that Arrington appeared to be trying to conceal a package of suspected drugs in his mouth. Officer Farrar told Arrington to remove what was in his mouth, but Arrington refused. At this point, police say Arrington lunged at the the officer and a struggle ensued.

Three motorists who saw the altercation stopped to help. It took only a few moments before the officer gained control of Arrington and got him to spit out a plastic bag containing approximately 19 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 5 grams of suspected heroin. The street value of the drugs is estimated at around $2,900.

Arrington is charged with Trafficking in a Schedule W Drug, Assault on an Officer, and Refusing to Submit to Arrest. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and his bail set at $150,000. McComb was also arrested and charged with Violation of Conditions of Release and with Possession of Drugs. Her bail is set at $2,000.
