Maine was well represented in Glamour Magazine's 'Hometown Heroes: 50 Phenomenal Women of the Year Who Are Making a Difference' edition!

17-year-old Nicole Maines attracted national attention this year with her legal battle with the Orono School District. Maines' landmark case fraught to allow transgender students the right to use the bathroom of the gender they identify with. In January, Maine Supreme Court sided with Maines and her family.

In the article Nicole said: 'They can look at what happened in Maine and see...our state leaders validated that everyone gets to be whom they need to be.'

Nicole spoke of the article to Huffington Post:

'It's an honor to be recognized with this title. I'm so glad that all the work that my family and I are doing is yielding positive results and making actual change! I hope that this will lead other youth to speak up in their communities and advocate for themselves and what they believe in.'
