Orionid Meteor Shower Continues into Tomorrow Morning

Depending on the weather you might see a few shooting stars in the sky!

The Orionid Meteor Shower is at its peak. This morning you might have been able to see a few meteors steak across the sky. October 22 between midnight and dawn is your best chance at seeing about 10-20 meteors per-hour. Sadly the weather forecast is calling for clouds and showers.

The Orionid Meteor Shower occurs when the earth passes through a stream of debris left behind by the famous Comet Halley.

The next big spacey event will take place at the end of the month. On October 29 asteroid 2009 FD will make its closest fly-by of earth. The space rock will miss earth by 3,848,773 miles. On Halloween asteroid 2015 TB145 will wiz by us by 310,686 miles, just beyond the lunar orbit. Both won't be visible to the naked eye.

Although big frozen rocks zooming by earth sounds unsettling don't call up Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck yet. In August of 2027 asteroid 1999 AN10 will pass within one lunar distance from Earth. That's just 236,121 miles away.

All the mentioned asteroids have a value of 1 on the Torino Scale. The 0-10 scale is used to communicate the risk of an impact. So far, no object has been rated over 4.
