Noel Gallagher Picks His Five Favorite David Bowie Songs

In the wake of David Bowie’s death earlier this month, Noel Gallagher chose to celebrate the Starman’s career and its indelible impact on his own journey as a musician by naming his favorite Bowie songs. The ex-Oasis guitarist picked “In the Heat of the Morning,” “Fashion,” “The Jean Genie,” “Let’s Dance” and “Heroes” as his top five Bowie tracks.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gallagher recalls “Heroes” as the first Bowie song he ever heard. “I went down to my local second-hand record shop a couple of days later and got Best of Bowie and never looked back.” (In 1997, Gallagher and his brother/Oasis bandmate Liam would cover the song as a B-side for their Be Here Now single "D'You Know What I Mean?")

Gallagher revealed Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones introduced him to “In the Heat of the Morning,” a song recorded around the time of Bowie’s 1967 self-titled debut. The song has even made its presence heard in Gallagher’s own catalog: “I was listening to ‘In the Heat of the Morning’ the other day, and I realized that I’ve used most of the lyrics in bits and bobs over the years!”

Gallagher names “Let’s Dance” as his “all-time f---ing favorite song by David Bowie.”

“Can you dance the blues in red shoes? Is it possible? I don’t think it is,” Gallagher said. “Maybe it is if you’re David Bowie.”
