A new Miss America crowned and a pageant with many firsts.

You can call Miss New York, Nina Davuluri, Miss America now. Nina has become the first Indian-American to wear the crown. The win is the second year in a row a Miss New York took the crown. Miss California, Crystal Lee is first runner-up.

The pageant aired on ABC yesterday live from Atlantic City, New Jersey for the first time in eight years.

Contestants were judged on a personal interview, a talent demonstration, on-stage question, and appearance in swimwear and evening gown. Nina's talent demonstration was a Bollywood fusion dance. Her on-stage question regarded American TV reporter Julie Chen getting plastic surgery on her eyes. She responded that she was opposed to the surgery and that 'ones diversity should be celebrated.'

The pageant had other 'firsts.' Miss Iowa, Nichole Kelly was born without a left forearm. She's using her fame as Miss Iowa to promote a platform of overcoming disabilities. Miss Kansas Theresa Vail, who's a sergeant in the Army National Guard, was the first contestant to display tattoos.
