Next ‘Resident Evil’ Film to be Last of Series Says Director

The sixth ‘Resident Evil’ film is being planned as the last movie of the series, according to longtime director and husband of Alice, Paul W.S. Anderson.

This next ‘Resident Evil’ movie could be the last time we see Alice in front of the camera and Paul W.S. Anderson behind it, the famed director said in an interview with Collider. Anderson, husband to ‘Resident Evil’ lead Milla Jovovich, was pretty clear that this next RE film would be considered final chapter.

“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the working title.  It may end up being the final title, but that’s what’s written on the front page of my script… I’m right in the middle of [the first draft],” Anderson said.

Fans of the horror genre, especially of the ‘Friday the 13th,’ should recognize that having ‘The Final Chapter’ in a title is hardly ever the case in the long run for the franchise. There have been rumors that after Anderson was done with the Resident Evil franchise it would be rebooted to be more in line with its source material, which would mean no Alice clones, no pyrokinetic powers, no deserts reclaiming Las Vegas, etc.

In terms of whether or not the film would debut in 2015, Anderson said the following:

“There are no set dates for shooting yet. I think we’re waiting until we have a first draft screenplay and then go from there.”

Another interesting tidbit from the interview was Anderson’s reveal that he was offered many other films to make based on popular games. He admitted that he just wanted to stay with the Resident Evil franchise for now. Let’s just hope that Uwe Boll doesn’t know about this.
