Two New York men and three Hancock County residents have been arrested following an investigation into the sale of heroin and cocaine base (crack) in Hancock County.

As part of continuing efforts to crackdown on the growing trend of out-of-state drug traffickers selling heroin and cocaine base (crack) in Hancock County, local deputies, drug enforcement agents and marine patrol officers searched a home Tuesday night on Taunton Drive in Sullivan, police said in a Wednesday news release.

Police said evidence of drug trafficking was seized in the raid, including approximately $6,300 in suspected drug proceeds.

Following the raid, Christopher Cruz, 28, and Kevin Barner, 51, both of the Bronx, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to traffic in schedule W drugs (heroin and crack).

Sherman Merchant, 32, of Gouldsboro was arrested on three outstanding warrants.

Jade Giger, 30, of Gouldsboro was charged with violation of conditions of release.

Matthew Leise, 39, of Sullivan was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

All of the suspects were transported to the Hancock County Jail and were expected to make appearances in Ellsworth Unified Court on Wednesday.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are likely.
