New Hampshire OK’s Medical Marijuana

N.H. has become the 19th state to pass a medical Mary J law.

Governor Maggie Hassan fulfilled a campaign promise by signing the law yesterday. In a statement she said 'this legislation ensures that we approach this policy in the right way with measures to prevent abuse.'

The law is a little different from Maine's current medical marijuana policy. N.H. now allows those with cancer or other serious illnesses like MS, to possess up to 2 ounces of marijuana. It must be obtained by a nonprofit dispensary. The state oped out of allowing residents to grow their own bud. To qualify, the patient has to be a patient of the prescribing doctor for at least 90 days and has tried other remedies and exhibited certain symptoms.

The law went into effect upon Governor Hassan's signature, however it could take up to two years for the program to get up and running.
