An unidentified woman found almost $8,000 cash in a candy rack at an Ellsworth convenience store on Tuesday morning and handed it over to the clerk.

The Circle K clerk, in turn, called police, who picked up the money, according to a report in the Ellsowrth American.

After the Ellsworth Police Department posted about the missing money on Facebook, a man was able to verify that the money was his, and picked up the cash -- exactly $7,900.

Apparently, the man had just been paid for a job and didn't realize the money was missing from his pocket until after he left the store.

The identity of the woman who found the money is still a mystery, though. The owner of the money is very grateful, police said, and would like to thank her.

If anyone knows who the woman was, they can contact Dotty Small at the Police Department at 667-2133 or 667-2168.
